Brighton Primary School has some classes taking part in the Commissioner’s Digital Challenge, curated by the Commissioner for Children and Young People.  As a participating school we were sent the below email containing links to webinars that our Staff, Students and Community can be part of.

Live Event #1

ABSOLUTE BASICS OF CODING FOR TEACHERS IN ONE HOUR

Want to learn about the absolute basics of coding? Come along to this live event being run by Microsoft Learning Delivery Specialist, Megan Townes, for the Commissioner’s Digital Challenge. In just one hour you’ll discover the importance of coding in education to build the foundations of computational thinking skills – skills that will help today’s children get ready for the jobs of the future. You will learn the vocabulary, basic skills and simple activities to get started with the basics of coding in your classroom.

TEACHING COMPUTATIONAL THINKING THROUGH PLAY

Can computational thinking and coding be taught without all the bells and whistles? Join Microsoft Learning Delivery Specialist, Megan Townes, for this live event for the Commissioner’s Digital Challenge. Megan will cover a range of activities, ideas and resources that will help you to introduce computational thinking through play to children of all ages. Whether you are inside a classroom or out in the playground, there’s a wealth of activities and resources available to you to enrich the computational thinking skills of the children in your class.

GET STARTED WITH MICROSOFT MAKECODE

Pattern recognition, abstraction, algorithmic thinking, and decomposition are core thinking skills that apply to any subject. Join this live event delivered by Microsoft Learning Delivery Specialist, Megan Townes, for the Commissioner’s Digital Challenge to learn how to integrate these components into any content area with Microsoft MakeCode projects: hands-on activities that engage children immediately. In this live event you will learn how Microsoft MakeCode offers children the opportunity to practice computational thinking and how to code a game using MakeCode Arcade. You might even see the Commissioner’s robot, Cody Buttons, pop up as a sprite!
