Weekly Wrap Up- Exciting first week of term 3

Dear Families,

It’s been an exciting first week of term 3 with our littlest learners celebrating 100 days of school, our year 4s enjoying outdoor learning experiences at Woodhouse Camp and lots of STEM learning.

By extending learning beyond the classroom, we open the door to many more learning opportunities for our children. The Year four community spent some quality time at Woodhouse Camp  participating in outdoor education activities such as rock wall climbing.  Our campers had an awesome time. The benefits of camp are long lasting-  I’m confident friendships have been strengthened and  experiences will become fond memories.  I thank all staff and parents who volunteered their time to make the camp experience possible. A big shout out to Lisa and Kim for the hours of work behind the scenes to organise the camp.

It was a very important and exciting day for 4.7 and 4.8 and their STEM project today! Over the past term they have been working on a STEM project that required them to design a caravan

  • with recyclable products
  • that is aerodynamic
  • that will function with no power
  • that must be light but strong
  • also an electric car needs to be able to tow it.
  • when the caravan is being towed it needs to be low, but when it’s parked it is high.

Today the students took their plans and made designs to the Caravan and Camping Show to gather some authentic feedback from stakeholders- those who use caravans and industries that make them. The students designed their own feedback sheets which involved asking specific questions to help to improve their designs and to target their brief.

The 4.7 and 4.8 students received over 100 feedback responses that will help them to tweak their designs with purpose. The age range of people providing feedback was 18 years to 80 years. The students’ communication skills, questioning and appreciation of responses was outstanding. The highlight was that the CEO from Jayco provided feedback to all of our groups and was happy to have discussions about further developments. The President of the Caravan and Camping Association also provided feedback and spoke to the children about the specific materials that caravans are made from and how they are focussing on recycling. It was a great day!

Enjoy the weekend.

Warm Regards, Rebecca
