Weekly Wrap Up (Week 5)

Dear Parents,

Thank you to all families for your support during the first 5 weeks of term 1. It has been a different start to the school year, with the hybrid model and then readjusting back to all students on site learning face to face. We appreciate your support in following SA Health and Department for Education (DfE)COVID guidelines. The students have been fantastic and we can all be proud of their positive attitude and enthusiasm for learning.

Hearing Awareness Week

This week is Hearing Awareness Week. Today during my Friday Forums  I met with a group of students who are hard of hearing to talk to them about their experiences at Brighton and ways we can make the CDE even better. They talked highly of the relationships they have with the CDE staff, the extra help they receive with their learning and the friendships they have formed with others.

COVID Update

DfE have announced some changes to COVID restrictions in schools. The following activities can resume: inter-school sporting events, extra curricular activities, excursions, incursions, outdoor assemblies, swimming and aquatics. We expect further easing of restrictions will be announced in week 9, term 1.

To minimise the spread of COVID a number of safety measures are still in place including:

  • All adults to wear masks indoors
  • Students in year 3-6 are encouraged to wear masks indoors
  • Outdoor learning where possible
  • Increase natural ventilation by opening doors and windows
  • The current testing , isolating and quarantine approach remains the same including classroom contacts
  • Keep your child home if unwell

Acquaintance Night

Due to COVID restrictions Acquaintance Night has been cancelled for 2022. Instead, teachers are sending home information via Seesaw or hard copies. Information about specialist subjects has been shared via the Blog. We look forward to coming together as a community once COVID restrictions are  lifted.

Pancake Day

A bigthank you to Sarah and her team of volunteers for turning 20 litres of mixture into fluffy pancakes to celebrate ‘Pancake Day’ on Tuesday, lots of flipping! Students turned out in huge numbers to enjoy breakfast with their peers and to acknowledge Shrove Tuesday. The BPS positive vibe could be felt and heard.

New Playground

Jan had the honour to pull down the bunting and ‘open’ the new playground. The new equipment is a hit with all ages and I’m sure will be loved by many for years to come. Planning for the new playspace in LA4 is underway and we hope to have some concept drawings to share with you in the coming weeks.

Have a great weekend. See you next week.

Regards, Rebecca
