Volunteering at our School – Sports Coaches, Team Managers and Coordinators

I’m excited to announce that the wheels are turning to get some of our Summer Sports up and running!

As always – the coordination, coaching and team managing is expertly run by some pretty special volunteers.  This year is no different.

I am seeking Coordinators to assist me in creating the teams, and preparing the bags for Basketball, Cricket and Volleyball.  (Unfortunately, Tee ball is no longer being offered after 20+ years of our children enjoying this sport.  We were advised this at our last game of last year, so I am sorry we cannot deliver this to you as anticipated).

We will also require many coaches and team managers.  Please do not be of the assumption that you need any experience in either of these roles.  All we need is your eagerness to help out.  Many of us learn the sport as we go.  The role of coach is more hands on, helping plan teams and positions, as well as guide our students to be positive team members who are willing to give the sport a go.  The Team Manager role is more administrative.  Communicating game locations, who is the Captain, etc.

For all of these important roles, we require our volunteers to have completed the Department for Education’s Volunteer process.

NEW TO VOLUNTEERING WITH US?  Please click here for the requirements to complete.  Please be aware this can take a total of 3 hours to do all components.  The Working with Children Check can take up to 6 weeks to return your clearance, so please prioritise this application.

YOU’VE VOLUNTEERED WITH US BEFORE?   If you have completed all your components before, you are not required to resubmit this year – unless, some have expired or we need extra documents you have not yet provided.  Please read on.

COVID-19 Vaccination Information:

The Emergency Management (Education and Early Childhood Settings Vaccination) (COVID-19) Direction 2021  requires that, from 11 December 2021, all persons working in a South Australian Education or Early Childhood setting must:

  • have received at least one dose of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved COVID-19 vaccine; and
  • have received, or have evidence of a booking to receive, a second dose of a TGA approved COVID-19 vaccine within the interval after the first dose recommended by the ATAGI for that COVID-19 vaccine.

For clarity ‘work’ includes on a full time, part time, casual, contract or voluntary basis.

Working with Children Check:

Working with Children Checks issued in 2018 are only valid for 3 years.  If your DHS Working with Children Check or clearance was issued in 2018, it is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.  I may have mistakenly informed individuals that clearances that were issued in 2018 were extended to 5 years validity, but that was a system error.  Please click here and read step 2 to see how to reapply for a clearance.  Clearances issued in 2019 onwards have a 5 year validity, unless revoked prior.

Responding to Risks of Abuse, Harm and Neglect:

All our volunteers have Responding to Abuse and Neglect (RAN) training.  We need to ensure all our Volunteers in 2022 have upskilled to the new course released this year called “Responding to  Risks of Abuse, Harm and Neglect”.  This course is available via Plink!  Please click here and refer to Step 3.  Rather than create an account, please log in via your previous email and password combination.

Please contact Jan-Marie via email on dl.0637.volunteers@schools.sa.edu.au or call 8296 3614 during school hours.

Thanks to all of our amazing volunteers!

Jan-Marie
