OzWater is Australia’s international water conference and trade exhibition, and is run annually by the Australian Water Association. Whilst not normally open for students, Fulton Hogan, the year 7 STEM industry partner, invited 30 students from Brighton and 30 students from Seaview Downs Primary to work with professionals in the water industry to support their STEM investigation.
Representatives from Fulton Hogan, TRILITY, Tonkin Consulting, Inside Infrastructure and Hunter H2O worked with the students to support their ideas to solve their STEM problem.
This was such a unique opportunity for the students to explain their thinking and get feedback on their models and design ideas to take back to the classroom. Teachers attending, commented on the richness of these discussions and the diverse vocabulary used by the students.
As part of the event at the Convention Centre, trades in the water industry were on display, giving students a first hand look at new materials and processes which are on the cutting edge of innovation.
We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Fulton Hogan for their unwavering support of problem based learning at Brighton and we looking forward to a continued education partnership.
