On Friday of week 2, our school undertook a COVID-19 practice evacuation, following a comprehensive plan shared with all staff. If there is an active COVID-19 case at our school, we will be notified by the Department for Education’s (the department) central office or Education Director, Chris Sheldon, and we will enact our plan.
We will not undertake an emergency evacuation as such ( like a fire evacuation) , but we will enact our plan in a calm and sensible manner – just like students and staff did with our practice on the Friday.
In essence the following will occur:
- The school will notify all parents/caregivers in three ways – text message, blog and seesaw.
- Parents / caregivers will be asked to come to our school and collect their child / children in a calm and sensible manner.
- Pick up points for each class are attached.
- We ask that no parent enter a class, or importantly move upstairs in LA2 and LA4 –students will not be located there. Our attached plan /map details this. This is a sensible approach.
- All students will have a hard copy of a letter from the department. We will also post this on our blog and seesaw.
- To avoid confusion, there is no need for parents to contact the school by phone. Follow the attached plan regarding the pickup of your child/children. There is also no need to ring your child’s mobile. Uncollected children will be well cared for and parents contacted as soon as practical after the announced evacuation.
- All class teachers will take the roll when dismissing students – all students will be carefully accounted for.
- If parents are asking an adult friend to collect their child / children we need to have this is writing. Please complete this form which states that you are informing the school that the nominated adult/s can pick up your child from school in the case of a Covid-19 evacuation. Complete this form asap, even now, and submit. Please do not ring the school, as each phone line will be occupied with out going calls.
- We will not allow students to leave the school grounds without a parent / carer / adult. Students cannot ride/skate/scooter home alone. This is our current policy if a child had to leave the school grounds.
- Bikes / scooters / skateboards can be collected when an adult picks up their child / friend’s child. Any student bikes / scooters / skateboards not collected will be well secured if not collected.
- OSHC will not operate on the afternoon of an evacuation.
- Following the calm and sensible evacuation, with all students accounted for, I will acknowledge this with a blog post. Our school will be in ‘lock down’ and thoroughly cleaned following the evacuation. I will then update our school community as to our way forward.
