Naplan

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Year 3’s and 5’s will be involved in NAPLAN testing from Tuesday next week (10th May) to Friday (May 20th). NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students do. As students’ progress through their school years, it is important to check how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy. NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process.

Students take part in assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy. Questions assess content linked to the Australian Curriculum: English and Mathematics. All assessments are done on line except for Year 3 Writing. If your child is away they may catch up between May10th – 20th)

NAPLAN is for everyone. Adjustments are available for students with disability who have diverse functional abilities and needs. Adjustments reflect the support normally provided for classroom assessments.

An individual student performance report will be provided to you through your child’s school later in the year.

NAPLAN results are used to:

  • Review programs and support offered in the school
  • Identify strengths and areas of need to improve teaching programs
  • Set literacy and numeracy goals
  • Discuss individual student progress with teachers and parents.

If you wish to withdraw your child from the tests please notify your child’s class teacher by Friday 6th May and we will send you a form to sign, which must be returned to school by Monday 9th May.

Thanks

Jan Taylor
