In support of our Site Improvement Numeracy Goal, to retain and improve the number of high achieving students in years 3-7 numeracy, Brighton Primary School extend our students in rigorous Mathematics workshops.
These workshops are driven by a teacher with high level Mathematics teaching skills and extensive, current training.
The focus of the lessons are to;
- Develop strong problem solving skills through a consistent process.
- Challenge the student’s current thinking and support them to develop a toolbox of strategies to solve problems.
- Connect Mathematical content to real life situations.
- Use the student’s knowledge to drive the lessons and have the students be the first call of support for each other when undertaking higher level tasks.
- Develop Computational thinking skills to breakdown complex multi-step problems and logically organize and analyse data.
- Use Critical and Creative thinking and justify their thinking.
- Explicitly teach Mathematical content to address the students’ needs as they arise throughout the problem solving process.
Pre and post data is compared to measure student development and impact during and at the completion of the year’s workshops. Results are reported back to the classroom teacher regularly throughout the year.
This is awesome to see, keep up the great work kids!
