At the start of this term, we honestly didn’t know if we could run sports. COVID was circling and we were unsure what classroom contacts meant for our kids and the Sporting Associations.
Thanks to parents who support their children playing sport, and to the 200 kids giving it a go, we were able to start our school’s summer sport season. The BIGGEST thanks is extended to our Coaches and Managers for volunteering their time and energy to support school sport.
Basketball: We had 150 players from Foundation to Year 6 involved in 18 Basketball teams in term 1 – What a start! We hope everyone had a ball and enjoyed playing.
Cricket: We had 2 Master Blaster teams and an A Grade team play this term.
A Grade Summary by Coach Meagan Palmer: We managed to pull together an A Grade cricket team and were lucky to play 3 matches in Term 1. Elliott, Ishaan, Jaxon, Leo, Marley, Mason, Mitchell, Patrick and Spencer all gave their best effort every week and improved with each game. With some excellent fielding, wickets and batting partnerships we won our last game! Thank you to the parents who helped out with scoring and umpiring, and to Gillian for managing the team.
Volleyball: We have 36 players playing in 5 teams in quite a reduced field this term. Volleyball is available to players from year 4 to 6 and is played at Brighton Secondary School.
- Brighton Year 6 Boys Red won against Volleyball Champions 3 (79) to 0 (41) to finish 5th
- Brighton Year 6 Girls Pink won against SHC Diggers 2 (66) to 1 (63) to win Gold
- Brighton Year 6 Girls Yellow lost to SPW Girls Pink 0 (55) to 3 (70) to finish 4th
- Brighton 4/5 Girls Blue lost to Banana Spike 0 (40) to 3 (70) to finish 2nd
- Brighton 4/5 Boys Orange forfeited their game, so unfortunately recorded a loss to SPW Mixed Aqua to finish 2nd
Y6 Brighton Pink Girls Team Manager Nat Harvey: Brighton girls pink team 6/7 had a great season bar being a short one but won the GF by 3 pts. Winners are grinners 👍👍They played well when they concentrated with only 6 players and no spares with some players away in isolation during the season.
