Part of this term the year 6 classes have been working on a piece that depicts the Australian bush and the natural medicine that can be used from the leaves. We explored the art of Rosemary Petyarre ,born Utopia,1961 in Northern Territory.Bush medicine leaves are collected by the women and are highly prized for their restorative powers as part of traditional health practices .
The children have created their art through a series of different techniques including blending using brushes, creating the bush ground using non traditional tools such as sponges, cloth, rope and rubber. They have observed different leaf shapes and then drawn 2 of their own on transfers that have become the leaf shapes for their piece.Lastly they have chosen a colour that will help lift the colours of their piece and applied with the end of the brush.
The pieces are really starting to take shape. Here is a look at some of the process.
