The culmination of a term’s worth of investigation, analysis and research was celebrated yesterday as the Year 7 students presented their final solutions to representatives from Fulton Hogan, Tonkin Consulting and SA Water. Presented with a complex, real-world problem at the end of term 1 students were driven to find a way to rehabilitate the collapsing concrete lagoon walls at Bolivar Treatment Facility. Student presented solutions incorporating detailed construction methodologies, material analysis and cost as well as safety considerations. The panel members were blown away by the knowledge the students had and how they explained their models using engineering terminology.
An outstanding showcase of problem based learning and the opportunity provided by Brighton Primary to engage and extend students within an authentic learning context.
Congratulations to all of the teachers and students involved and a huge thank you to Fulton Hogan for their support.
