New Building/LA 2 Renovations and New Front Entrance

There is certainly lots of activity here at our school with our new building ready for handover on Wednesday the 7th of July-this is very exciting, as this project has been years in the making! However, due to the late hand over, it has been necessary to ‘decant’ all the classes from LA 4 to other locations around the school -just for the last 8 days of this term. The building will have asbestos removed this weekend and then during week 10, the building will be  prepared for demolition. The move to other locations will happen today-as follows: 4.1 and 4.4 to the STEM space; 4.2 and 4.5 to the Art room in LA2,  4.3 to the break out space in LA 1 and 4.6 will relocate to 6.1, with our year 7’s forming two classes for the last week of this term.

Auslan will rotate around to each class, while Performing Arts will either be in classes, the wet area of LA 3 or in the yard if filming their commercials. Our library annexe has returned to its original location (current Auslan space) and Library 1 will eventually move up to 2.8 at the beginning of next term.

The Highet Avenue, front entrance to our school, is being transformed, modelled off a design produced by our higher order thinking maths students, lead by Chris Hansen. The path will be widened, new grass laid, some plantings will be included and a  bench installed. It will be such a huge improvement to our school and so much more welcoming.

The entire floor of LA 2 will be redeveloped during the upcoming school holidays, as outlined in a previous Blog post-it will look fantastic. With these last 2 projects, I must sincerely thank Michael Kilmartin, a parent at our school and the Sarah Construction’s Design Manager for the new building. Michael’s ability to ensure things get done with the minimum of fuss and stress has been outstanding-he has ensured that we can continue with a ‘single select’ contract, meaning that the Sarah Constructions can undertake these significant renovations in a seamless manner. Thanks very much Michael.
