ICT Update – Term 4 2020

As we have previously posted, we have invested significant money and resources into our ICT infrastructure in 2020 and felt it was time to update you and summarise everything that has been achieved.

In 2020 we have both purchased and entered into a finance arrangement with Apple significantly bolstering our iPad numbers in the school.  This has also allowed us to redistribute existing devices around the school to significantly increase the availability of devices to students.  We have also developed a three year plan and budget to continue this development.

As at the beginning of term 4 2020 we have the following in devices available to students;

  • 1:1 iPad 7th Generation with keyboard cases for all students in year 6 and 7
  • LA4 students (Year 4 & 5) have access to a shared set of 30 Laptops and 50 iPads with keyboard cases (Mix of 6th and 7th Generation)
  • LA2 students (Years 2 & 3) have access to a shared set of 30 Laptops and 30 6th Generation iPads with keyboard cases
  • LA1 Students (Year 1) have access to a shared set of 23 iPad 2
  • LA3 students (Foundation) have access to a set of 23 iPad 2

Additionally our specialist subject areas also have the following;

  • Art has 15 iPad 2
  • Auslan has 15 iPad 2
  • Health and PE has 15 iPad 2
  • Music has 14 iPad Mini 2

We should clarify that what is stated above is what all students have priority access to, but all devices (excluding 1:1) are available for any student/class by way of booking sheet at any time as these are whole school assets.

That means that in years F – 5 we have an approximate ratio of 1 :2.2(Devices : Students).  This ratio will improve in 2021 with our continued investment in devices and with the reduction in numbers of year 6 & 7 students in the 1:1 program.

Beyond the devices in hand, Brighton Primary School is in an excellent position with regards to its back-end infrastructure and the 3 year plan and budget contains significant maintenance of the system to keep it at standard.
