Volunteering at our school

Happy New Year Everyone!

For those of you who made New Year’s resolutions to become more involved in our school, let’s get that ball rolling!

The Department for Education has rules regarding volunteering in schools and preschools.  All volunteers must complete a Volunteer Application and Agreement Form, and be inducted (approx 30 min) into the school. You will need a Department of Human Services (DHS) screening clearance for Working with Children, and a Response and Neglect to Children (RAN) certificate.

You are unable to volunteer unless these steps have been completed.

Ways you can volunteer at Brighton Primary School:

  • Classroom support e.g. morning reading
  • Excursion/camp support
  • Governing Council/Parents and Friends/Sub Committees
  • After school sport Coaching/Manager/Coordinator
  • School Sport SA or Carnival coach/support during school
  • LAP (Learning Assistance Program)
  • Canteen support
  • Library support

You can collect a Volunteer Pack from the Front Office next week, or if you’d like to hit the ground running, all the information and forms are available below

We look forward to hearing from you!

  1. Good Morning Emily
You do not need to complete the process again, if you were cleared last year, that carries forward.
Your Working with Children clearance is valid 3 years from date of issue. You will always need a valid clearance to volunteer. I understand you will receive an email from DHS prior to expiry.
All other components (Application, agreement and Responding to Abuse and Neglect certificate) stay valid until the time that DECD make a change that requires us to all be updated. We’ll let you know if and when that happens.

    1. Thanks for your question Sam. I am pleased to say, no you don’t 🙂
