Welcome to all students, staff, parents and families as we begin term 2 at our school. I hope families, who were able to spend time together during the holidays, enjoyed their break.
All teaching staff began the term with a Training and Development Day on Monday, combined with the other 4 Primary Schools in our Partnership-Glenelg, Warradale, St Leonards and Paringa Park Primary Schools. We focused on a number of topics including: Learning Intentions (being very explicit to our students about what they will be learning), Formative Assessment (using assessment of student learning to inform our teaching practice) and Success Criteria (being very explicit to our students about what constitutes success). I think all staff found the day very useful, particularly when teachers across the Partnership shared their teaching practice. The opportunity to reflect on the new learning and plan in Professional Learning Teams in the afternoon was greatly valued.
All Ancillary staff were involved in training at school with two different sessions held. In the morning, Jen Tranter, our Behaviour Coach, talked to staff about Trauma and the significant impact it has on student learning and wellbeing. In the afternoon Rosanna, Carolyn, Alison and all members of our CDE staff, walked other staff through a session they called ‘A Deaf, Deaf World’-sharing their personal experiences of being deaf or being involved in the deaf community. This was repeated for teaching staff at Tuesday night’s staff meeting which I found extremely informative.
I wish all students and staff a very productive term-like always, we have a very busy agenda ahead. Here’s to a great term- learning together.
