STEM Learning in LA6

LA6 has had an exciting few weeks with their STEM PBL beginning. The Year 5 and 6 students are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with Fulton Hogan in 2023.

In Week 1, Josephine (Project Manager), Dev (Project Engineer), Nini & Chahil (Graduate Engineers), from Fulton Hogan, came to Brighton Primary School to share with us their problem. Our problem is: How can we assist Fulton Hogan to replace the detoriated Keppel Grove Sewage Pipeline, ensuring stakeholders are not affected, whilst making it sustainable?

In Week 2, we worked as a group on working out what was our Success Criteria and Limitations. We needed to ensure we knew exactly what we needed to have a successful solution, and what obstacles we had to consider.

In Week 3 we were fortunate enough to have an excursion to the West Lakes site, and see the detoriated pipeline for ourselves, and gain a better understanding of the problem. Our IT Managers took lots of photos and videos to help us when we got back to school.

This week we had our first week with in our research groups and began trying to find the answers to some of the questions we had.

Also this year we are excited to be working with a class at Ngutu College in Woodville They are tackling the same problem as us, so we are hoping to share our learning throughout the process, share our solution ideas, and see what they come up with to solve the problem.

If you think you may be able to help us with this problem, or even part of this problem, please comment below.

Stay tuned for future updates on the fantastic learning LA6 students are doing.
