As is obvious, our new building is quickly ‘growing’, with the roof to be fixed by the middle of next week, followed by the walls and floors. It really is very exciting seeing our new building moving towards completion. A revised occupancy date is now week 9, term 2.
A very detailed and thorough process was used throughout the second half of last year to determine which classes would occupy the new building, with the major focus on teachers collaborating, co-planning, moderating and demonstrating a willingness to work productively in our Professional Learning Teams(PLTs). Each class teacher has committed to such an approach. All classes from LA 4 will move into the new building, as will our two year 3 classes-2.8 and 2.5. Our year 2 ‘library’ classroom will move up to 2.8 to enable our year 2 cohort to be in the same vicinity (week 9, term 2) and Auslan will move into 2.5 next year. This will ensure that our library returns to its intended use, which is a great outcome.
With our year 7’s moving to high school from next year, our 2022 year 6 students will occupy the heritage listed classrooms at the front of our school-currently occupied by our year 7 students. Music will move from its current location to 5.2 as from the beginning of next year, with the adjacent room 5.1, a free space during the day, but utilised by OSHC for before and after school care. OHSC is absolutely flourishing with some mornings having over 60 students in attendance.
We also have a large number of other facility upgrades that we are currently investigating. I will outline these in a future Blog post.
This is a very exciting time for our school community!
