State Tag Rugby Championships

Thanks to Jeff who oversaw the recent Tag Rugby Championships. His comments are below.  Ian

Rugby NRL recently had huge cut backs to their funding as a result of Covid 19. So instead of an open invitation to the State Tag Rugby championships they decided to invite schools that have set up successful pathways to playing rugby. We were asked to field a year 6/7 boys and a year 6/7 girls team. During the minor rounds the girls only lost 1 game and so were through to the championship final. The boys won 2 of their minor round games and went into a semi final of the trophy section. They went onto win and their end result was 3rd place. The girls, coached by Asha, won an exciting Grand Final. Scores were level after full time so the game went into ‘golden try’. First team to get a try, wins. A slightly missed timed pass and Teagan took the ball and with 4 girls chasing her, made the try! The girls won the State Tag Rugby Championships. Well done! Thanks to Theo for helping with the coaching of the boys team.
