3.4’s close encounter with the Hooded Plover.

The foundation students in 3.4 had a unique opportunity to get up close on Brighton Beach with the Hooded Plover. The class met local council, Birdlife Australia and the Plover volunteers at the beach to learn more about the habitat and adaptations of this little bird. They saw first hand what is being done to protect their nesting areas and learnt about the threats to their breeding success. They were extremely fortunate to clearly see a nesting bird and watched it fly to the water’s edge to feed.

They are highly engaged in the project and with the support of their STEM partnerships will develop solutions to help protect the Hooded Plover.
