Safer Internet Day

Do your bit for a safer, better internet experience.

The following is an email we received from DfE with regards to the departments approach to Cyber Security.  Brighton Primary School echo’s the same approach and encourages your family to do the same.

Today the world comes together to mark Safer Internet Day 2020.

What began in Europe in 2004, is now observed in approximately 150 countries.

Each year, Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues but for the Department for Education, cyber security is a daily and ongoing priority that requires everyone to be informed and vigilant.

The department’s cyber security measures encompass sites and corporate offices to protect the security of children and young people, and others who deal with the department.

Lax cyber security can put vital personal and corporate information at risk. You can help keep our systems safe by following these simple steps:

  • Strengthen your password by making it longer and perhaps including numbers and symbols.
  • Never share passwords and usernames (not with work colleagues, best friends or your own children).
  • Always lock mobile devices and computers when not in use.
  • Avoid accessing anything confidential on public networks. Information shared on public WiFi can potentially be seen by others.
  • Pay close attention to what you read online and ignore unfamiliar links.
  • Keep your software up-to-date on all devices that have internet access.
  • Delete applications when you no longer need them.

“Good cyber security involves a mix of precautions focussed around informed people, the right processes and effective technology such as encryption and access management,” says Chief Information Officer, Scott Bayliss.
