Positive Parenting Program

Brighton Primary School will be hosting a Positive Parenting Program, commonly referred to as Triple P on the 7th, 14th and 21st August from 6:30 to 8:30 in the STEM room.  The Triple P Seminar Series is designed to be a brief introduction to the Triple P strategies and will give the parents and carers some great ideas to take home and try out with their family.

What is covered in sessions?

Positive Parenting. Practitioners introduce parents to the five key principles of positive parenting that form the basis of Triple P:

  • Ensuring a safe engaging environment,
  • Creating a positive learning environment
  • Using assertive discipline,
  • Having reasonable expectations,
  • Looking after yourself as a parent.

Raising confident and competent children. Parents are introduced to the six core building blocks for children to become confident and successful at school and beyond. These include:

  • Showing respect to others
  • Being considerate
  • Having good communication and social skills
  • Having healthy self-esteem
  • Being a good problem solver
  • Becoming independent

Raising resilient children. Parents are introduced to six core building blocks for children to manage their feelings and become resilient in dealing with life stress. These are:

  • Recognising and accepting feelings
  • Expressing feelings appropriately
  • Building a positive outlook
  • Developing coping skills
  • Dealing with negative feelings
  • Dealing with stressful life events

These seminars are free and are aimed at families with children aged 3-12. It is flexible and practical and equips parents with skills, strategies and confidence to handle many parenting situations.
