Brighton Oval Redevelopment

I recently received the letter below from Amanda Wilson, Mayor of the City of Holdfast Bay, outlining details regarding the Brighton Oval Redevelopment.

Exciting times ahead.

Ian

Dear Mr Filer

I am delighted to write to inform you that, on Tuesday 9 April, the City of Holdfast Bay Council formally accepted the financial arrangements for the first stage of the Brighton Oval redevelopment, and gave authority to the Acting Chief Executive and I to sign the agreement with the developer.

As a consequence of this approval, building work is anticipated to start in May, with the construction of three new community sporting club buildings (stage 1 of the project) due for completion in May 2020. The first construction site will be along the Brighton Road frontage and then later in 2019, construction will commence at the site of the grandstand and Lacrosse building.

The $13.7 million redevelopment of Brighton Oval is funded through major commitments by the Federal Government ($5 million), State Government ($2 million), and the City of Holdfast Bay ($6.7 million).

The first phase of the redevelopment will incorporate the construction of three brand new purpose-built buildings for the community and the cricket, football, rugby and lacrosse clubs.

The redevelopment will double the number of available changing rooms, and for the first time, the buildings will also include new unisex changing rooms that are female friendly. These new, larger facilities will help attract more people to take part in sport and recreation, with a particular focus on encouraging greater participation among females and young people.

The redeveloped Brighton Oval will also include improved community spaces, a new playspace, shelters, seating and carparks with the project expected to be completed by Autumn 2021.

Yours sincerely

Amanda Wilson – Mayor City of Holdfast Bay

    1. It’s the Oval across the road (Highet Ave), North of the school.
      I googled it.
I’m sure you weren’t the only one not knowing.

  1. I can’t wait until they pull the old grandstand down. My football has been on the roof for over a year now! 😀

  2. Would love to see a better plan for Higher Street. There’s been a few accidents on it and I fear that a bad one is always a threat. Is there any plans for it?
