Year 7 Canberra Trip

After a fortnight back from our trip to Canberra, our students are still talking about the adventures they had in our nations capital. It was an extremely successful trip which built on our 68 students knowledge and understanding of our democratic history and our involvement in world conflict.

Students visited the AIS, The War Memorial, The Electoral Centre, The MInt, CSIRO, The Questacon Project Centre, Questacon Science Museum, The National Portrait Gallery and of course had a tour of Parliament House. At each venue the students participated in a program to enhance their understanding and develop their knowledge.

As a bonus our students met the Sydney Swans coach in our visit to the SCG, they watch the AFL Giants team train in Canberra and did a tour of the Opera House where we were luck enough to see the Sydney Symphony Orchestra practicing for a performance.

As usual our bus drivers were a fantastic resource and made us feel very welcome in Canberra and Sydney.

After returning we have noticed that our students have formed new friendship bonds and have further embraced being part of our community, not to mention their improved understanding of various curriculum topics covered in Canberra.

Upon our return Ms Nicolle Flint, our local Federal Member for Boothby came for a visit and presented each of our students with certificates commemorating our visit to Canberra. The level of questioning that our students demonstrated to Ms Flint was outstanding and very focused. A credit to the influence this camp has on students and the knowledge they gain about our democracy.

Later this term our Year 7 students and teachers will run an afternoon session for parents showcasing the trip and in Term 3 we will have an information session for Year 6 parents preparing them for our 2020 trip.

This fantastic trip would not have been possible without parent support and teachers, leadership and SSO’s giving up their personal time with family to come along and help on the camp. I must also pay tribute to our Year 7 teachers for their efforts before and during to ensure this camp runs smoothly.
