Happy Lunar New Year

Happy Lunar New Year

Gong Xi Fa Cai” (pronounced gong she fa tsai).

Today the 5th February is the first day of the Lunar calendar. For many Asian cultures this is the annual big celebration which brings family back together for the reunion dinner (like our Christmas here in Australia). In many Asian countries today would be a public holiday to start the festive season which continues for 15 days. This lunar year is the year of the Pig.

To all the Brighton families especially those who identity with the Asian heritage may we “Wish you wealth and prosperity” for the coming year.

If you wish to participate in some Asian tradition of which there are many. Here are simple ones…

Children are to greet parents with wishes for health, wealth and good fortune.

Parents are to give money to children in red envelopes

Giving and receiving must be done with 2 hands

The colour red maybe put everywhere. Especially in the clothes that are worn.
