Keeping Children Safe from Bullying

Diane Donaldson, Nicole Pickles and I attended the annual conference, Keeping Children Safe from Bullying, a few weeks ago. The conference certainly addressed many pillars of student wellbeing and Diane, Nicole and I are keen to share our thoughts and new learning with the wholes staff.  We also look forward to reviewing our ‘Positive Start Program’ in preparation for the 2019 school year.  Our ‘Positive Start Program’ is a program that every teacher implements during the first few weeks of the school year and then embeds as the year progresses.  The focus of the program is student wellbeing, developing positive relationships and positive behaviour, all through the lense of our school values and Play is the Way Program.

The Commissioner for Children and Young People, Helen Connolly, launched the findings from her project ‘The Bullying Project 2018’. She named her session the ‘Wisdom of Children’ and talked about her project as the ‘Listening Tour’ where she drew on the remarks about what children and young people told her about bullying. It was very interesting for all of us and I have attached the recommendations from children and young people to the blog for your information and interest.
