Playground Design and Yard Play

Below are the plans for the new playground development. The works are progressing on schedule. Today saw the monkey bars go in after they were repaired, the beginning of a new fort under construction, and the final works on the first of 2 viewing areas using our playground rocks. With the help of our Year 7 students, Jan-Marie will hand out classroom sports equipment from the Coles Sports Program tomorrow which should help maintain student engagement at recess and lunch times while the playground is down. Year 6/7 and 4/5 students (boys and girls) can also take part in structured footy games on the oval at lunch on Monday and Thursday, which I umpire.

  1. Hi, I was wondering if there was an updated time of completion for the playground? Driving past during the holidays it seems like it may not be finished by start of school. I hope this won’t be the case. Thanks.

    1. Hi Justine, the playground will be finished by the end of next week. I have been talking with LCS who installed the last piece we were waiting for last Tuesday and are now just fixing some site mistakes (damaged gate and broken shade sail pole). The swing had a very long lead time and it has held the whole project up. It will be right to go on day one and fences have only stayed up so it stays in good condition ready for day one. The playground area has plenty of room so we can add on in the future, but for now I think students will love it. Many more different options and places for students to hang out and places for teachers to take students and work outside. This year we need to work on tree planting which I will discuss with Ian.

  2. Hi Deb, the original plan did have 2, however the GC reps and the committee thought it would be better to have viewing areas reinstated, of which one was taken out (green hill with tiered seating) and then get a second fort down the track. We all agreed in the last planning meeting that this can be stage one of the playground. If additional funds can be sourced through another grant we can look at more equipment. It is a large space and there is room to grow the facilities in this spaces. The fort is a little smaller, but much more functional and safer than the last one. It is as you would appreciate difficult to accommodate all needs with only a set amount of funding, but with the ability to be added to I think it is a valuable project.

  3. Thanks Jamie. The initial plans had 2 forts. If we now only have 1, did we get anything else instead? And can you confirm that the fort will be the same size as the previous one? Would hate for it to be too small to be useful Like some public spaces have done.

  4. The playground looks fabulous Jamie. It will be exciting seeing it develop (and be completed!) Big thanks to you for this initiative!
